Years ago, when I was a snotty teenager, my Step-dad, Ed gave me a book he'd discovered containing time-honored wisdom handed down from father's to their sons. He'd even taken some time to add his own notes to the pages in an effort to enlighten me as to the ways of the world. While I didn't fully appreciate it at the time (at 14 I already knew everything...), I kept it, and as the years have grown, it has become one of my favorite treasures.
In 2007, my beautiful wife Lisa and I had our first child, Ace. And it was then that I really understood what all of the lessons in the book were about. Why simple things, like how to hold a hammer, are part of larger lessons about getting the job done right. Why small lessons about saving money really train you how to support a family. All of these pearls of wisdom don't just teach you how to be a man, but combined, what it means to be a man.
I started this site on August 30th, 2009, on Ace's second birthday. I want to share my thoughts as well as lessons I've learned from people far wiser than me. Quotes are attributed to their authors when known.
This site is for my son, but it's dedicated to Ed. Thanks Budro, I love you.
